Outfit Recap

As I’ve mentioned before, I have recently become more dedicated to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and participating in a fitness regimen.  Because I’m spending so much more of my off time in the gym, I’ve unfortunately been slacking when it comes to posting on my blog.  Since I don’t have the time to individually post all of the outfits I’ve recently worn, here are some of my favorite looks from the past few months.

Blush & Burgundy

Remember when oxblood (a.k.a. burgundy) was the "it" fall color of the previous years.  Well I definitely do, especially since I didn’t stop worrying myself to death until I got this pencil skirt as a Christmas gift last year.  I honestly feel like I haven’t given it much love mainly due to the thick wool material which can be tricky to wear on unexpected warmer days like when I took this picture a few weeks ago.  Virginia is notorious for its quick weather changes which makes it tricky for this Florida girl to get dressed during the colder months.

An unusual kind of print mixing

I’ve mentioned in the past how this red and navy skirt from Eshakti is by far one of my favorite pencil skirts.  The classic all American look can easily be paired up with similar colors.  In the past I’ve worn it with a classic button down white shirt (seen here) and also with my favorite dog sweater from Old Navy (seen here).  This time around I wanted to push the envelope and try to wear it differently.  Since it is in the same color palette, this hummingbird blouse was the perfect print.

Happy Halloween

I hope everyone enjoys their Halloween evening.  I actually wore this outfit a few week back but decided to post it today in honor of one of my favorite holidays.
I won't be dressing up this year but my little monsters will be wearing creative costumes we
made at home.  Check out my Instagram (dayissenseofstyle)for the silly pics.

You paid how much?

Would you believe me if I told you I only paid $4.99 for this Calvin Klein dress?  That’s right fellow fashionistas. I scored this beautiful multi colored stripe dress for less than a lunch meal at Ross about 2 months ago when I took my oldest daughter shopping for her senior pictures.  I had no intention of shopping, especially since my funds were allocated just for her, but while searching the clearance dress section I came across this beauty.  My first thought was there must be something wrong with the dress, but after trying it on and inspecting every inch of It I figured the size on the tag must have been the reason for no one snagging it up sooner.  The size on the label is an  8 but it fits more like a 6.  The dress is sleeveless and it fit me a bit loose under my arms but a quick trip to the tailor and this small hiccup was quickly fixed.  I haven’t found a deal this great in a really long time and even though it’s more of a summer dress, I easily added a sweater for an easy summer to fall transition look.

Midi Skirt

I’m not big on trends and usually try to stick to the classics.  By now, most of you may know that my go to favorite type of skirts are pencil style.  However, I’ve recently been really drawn to try something new, the midi skirt.  I was a bit hesitant since I’m only 5’3 and felt a bit too short for this trend, but I decided to give it a shot after seeing fellow bloggers pulling off this style and also finding one online for the reasonable price of $20. With this being my first time wearing the midi skirt, I wanted to keep all the colors neutral for a simple look.  In fact, several of my co-workers thought I was actually wearing a dress.  I’m still looking for new ways to wear this skirt so if you have any ideas please send them my way.

So Comfy…

I could practically live in these comfy harem pants my mother in law gave me during our trip to Florida.  I probably wouldn’t have picked them out for myself thinking they wouldn’t be too flattering, but I was mistaken. I wore them during our trip on one of our nightly outings and I’ve also been able to dress them up for work.  The neutral leopard print makes them easy to match and pair with any color.  I hope this trendy style doesn’t go out of style any time soon.
